This review is for brand new beginners like me. I\’ve never used any of the many software programs for video capture or editing. BTW, I don\’t know what the word Platinum refers to or, for that matter, if there is a silver or gold version.

Everyone but this one friend told me to shut up and buy a mac in order to use Imovie. I ended up going with Vegas rather than buying a new computer just to edit video.

Here\’s what I\’ve noticed in the first week of use: I was overwhelmed reading the instruction manual but then I stumbled onto the incredible sony training website. Sony provides a website dedicated to training for an earlier version of this program– [ However, it is easy to download each training video to your computer to play whenever you want, without dealing with those plug ins. Click on the word \”download\” toward the bottom left of your browser if the \”plug in\” stuff doesn\’t work on your computer.

There are 12 training videos, each of which is about minutes long. Even though the training videos were for Movie Studio 9 rather than 11, they provided everything I needed to make a ten minute short video project that includes Hi Def video and older clips that are not Hi Def. My project also included photos and had background music.

The program in its original box also came with an extra DVD loaded with training videos. Finally, the program itself has a \”show me how\” button, which literally walks beginners through editing their own video. Arrows pop up and point you to the exact spots you need to click when working with your video and audio.

This was a great addition to the training videos. Another note about that training website–If you happen to scroll around the various sonycreativesoftware websites, don\’t make the mistake I did: Vegas is a word used in at least two completely separate software programs that have almost the same name.

One is this \”movie studio\” program, which is in the hundred dollar range. The other is called Vegas Pro, which I think is a much more expensive and advanced version of Movie Studio. If you watch the website training videos and the accompanying DVD videos, you\’re out about 90 minutes. But that\’s all I needed to use the program the way most people will probably use it–to make cool vacation or family event videos that are 15 or 20 minutes long.

Again, I\’m a beginner and don\’t envision myself using this more than a few times a year. Nothing has been buggy and my computer has not frozen or crashed. Maybe it\’s important to know that my computer is a PC running windows 7. You should also know that I am not using the Vegas Movie Studio 11 version that was in the box–Vegas prompted me to upload the latest version, which probably included fixes to the original that came in the box. Not one crash. My favorite use for it involves archiving old mini-DV video.

I captured these clips into a hard drive but they are unreadable for most players that attach to TV sets. The Vegas program renders the video very fast, about 20 minutes for a 25 minute video using the computer I mentioned above. These old clips look great on modern TV\’s. No more DVD\’s, which don\’t play as clearly as these files.

Instead, I have at least a hundred family videos on that 1 TB hard drive. The program is much slower rendering these HI Def videos, about 40 minutes for a 10 minute clip. I try to limit the final clips to not much more than a gigabyte so that the video player attached to my TV doesn\’t get overwhelmed.

After seeing the difference and ease comparing. It\’s like comparing an Ipod to a CD player. I think they even look better than blue ray. Because this Vegas program is so good, I\’ve decided to use Sony cameras to take video because the file interchange is seamless. Addendum: Below is the link to training website for the earlier version of Vegas that I described in my review. As I mentioned above, you can download each video if you can\’t play them the usual way by clicking on each one.

When you click on a video and see something about \”plug in\’s not working\”, there is an option on the bottom left to \”download\”. These downloaded versions play fine in Windows Media Player.

I\’ve done a fair amount of video capturing and editing for my youtube channel. There seems to be things I can do easily with each different programs. For instance Windows movie maker is really easy to clip video together and trim it on the spot where as sony vegas does this to of course but there is a lot more to it and its very time consuming.

I could spend 30 mins using Vegas or 10 using Movie maker to get the same results. And I knew that when I purchase this Suite. The things that I wanted was more content, transitions and audio functionality. Vegas comes with sound forge which is a nice add on, also it comes with the Karaoke voice removal tools another bonus and DVD Architect Studio which is nice replacement for my old Nero software. First off if you want the content such as FX and sound effects and music you have to insert the installation DVD then just open folder to view files, The folder named Content contains all the bonus media.

You can just drag and drop it into the folder of your choice. It has music tracks but more like 30 that are just trimmed down from there orginal 3min format into various smaller clips, so there is not actually different music tracks. The sound effects are the same, 10 clips of bells ect. Of course you have the option to purchase more content through Sony. TOOLS: This program is loaded with a ton of tools, trimers, editors all kinds of goodies but there is a steep learning curve.

Sound forge alone is worth it. Cons: Stability: My main issue with this program is its not very stable, its definitely not my computer and I have capture programs, rippers and other editing software and have never had a problem, this program crashed 9 times last night to desktop and every time it wants me to reinstall the update that I\’ve already installed as the solution, I have know clue as to why it does this.

You really have to be careful and save alot or you will lose data and work. Video editing: Well thats what the program is for but I don\’t think it does this that well, actually I know it doesn\’t do it that well. I used cut clips from captured GTA5 online footage and dragged and dropped them all together.

Some of the clips after saving to p MP4 are grainy and the movement is flickery specially after using test captions, where as even in Movie maker saving in p HD they look perfect with text captions but in Movie maker the text is the blurry part.

Not really to sure why and its not really the reason I bought this but it would have been a bonus to just use one program to edit but looks like I will using multiple softwares to get the exact results I want. Yes I am picky. Functionality: I just don\’t like the interface that much, I had a hard time with the time line for example moving clips and adding transitions was a big pain. They get over lapped then it removes transitions from the other clips and you get to add everything all over again.

So all in all this is a good deal, but I just feel it fall under the I like this category for me. I\’m all about ease of use mixed with functionality, its not that I don\’t like more perks but its the time consumption that has a huge factor on editing.

If some one could mix those then I would give it 5 stars Youtube Videos comparison using original clip, movie maker and Vegas: Vegas: youtu. I\’ve upped my star rating to 4 to show that I\’m overall very please with this software.

Learned how to do PIP and accelerated video, slow motion and zoom in. Love the text making in this program, it just renders it really well. I\’ve also worked on my conversions and had why better luck converting to internet MP4 files. They look great. You really can\’t beat this deal, and I don\’t think there has been much more added to 12 so at this cost point give it try you won\’t be disappointed.

Well after you watch a bunch of tutorials that is :. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I have had previous versions of this brand and found them to be excellent, so why have i marked this down and told you not to buy it?? Well put simply it no longer works and this is not by any fault of your own PC or setup, nope – we have Sony to thank for this. There was a buy out of Magix Software and all their programmes which has resulted in the Vegas range of editing tools being withdrawn as far as i can see.

However this has had a knock on effect of certain Microsoft Code which is required to be downloaded at installation of Movie Studio now no longer being valid and has been taken offline, this means you cannot complete the install of this software..!!! All you get is an infuriating message telling you that you are offline even when your clearly NOT disconnected from the internet So all i can say is bad show on Amazon for not recognising there is an issue and still openly selling this product, and also beware – just because you have used it in the past like me, do NOT assume that this will work fine – it wont even install anymore.

Only got this because Microsoft in their wisdom got rid of movie maker. I tested a few different editing software programs out on the free trials, and this one seemed the best.

Loads of tips and tricks on youtube if you get stuck. At first I struggled to render my videos, but eventually solved this with the help of YouTube! Makes it a lot easier if the program crashes! I do not normally use Video software for movies and graphics, but since I bought a FujiFilm Finepix S Camera more than a year ago, I was tempted to try creating movies rather than just standard graphics which I had uploaded onto a disc using a Windows Movie maker software which was free and easy to use.

Recently I spent time on the north-east coast beaches shooting quite a bit of footage no more than 13 minutes in various locations and decided to purchase this software since my existing free one kept crashing since it was now out of date. Although I am fairly computer literate, I found this software quite challenging. The finished product however, proved to be something really special. It took me a couple of days, working a few hours at a time to complete the project, and I was quite pleased with the result.

Picture and sound quality were very good indeed, and were far superior to the old software I had been using. I knew I needed a lot of patience to work the projects, the interface was challenging to me, although I do know that some PC users would find it quite easy. Well, being a 67 years old pensioner, I might not be too forward thinking like many younger people nowadays who find the technology easier to adapt to. Nonetheless, I persevered, and I am finding it much easier to use. Like everything else these days, especially with technology.

There is a decent help box for those who might need to keep reminding themselves how they do this and that. I am glad I purchased this, particularly since it was being offered at a fantastic price. Software like this does not always come relatively cheap nowadays.

Give it a try, it is worth the money, extremely good value, and a worthwhile tool for those who fancy themselves a budding Speilberg, or someone like me, a golden oldie who prefers to being a budding David Lean. This is very, very good software. More features than first realized, Does slow motion, time frame motion from images. It outputs in user definable format. It\’s don\’t crash. It really is amazing. And I have tried a few. Big tip do not try to download free video ededting software off the net, most are adware.

Had pinacle and microsoft standard supply, both simple to use, this sony is a challenge, BUT well worth the effort, all you do is click on to u tube and ask a question then run the u tube help at the same time as you operate the sony, after a while you will learn how it works and start more ambitious dvds I think there are up to 6 or 7 sounds you can mix , like the original track on the video you are editing, a sound track, a sound [bell or horn etc] bird, train passing, choir singing, fade in and out, it goes on, interesting for those who don\’t mind the learning curve.

Also had a go at the 3d with moderate success so far Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Make Money with Us. Amazon Payment Products.
